David Miller walked away from his dream job today, three years early, and with his vision from the past incomplete. His popularity has hit rock bottom, his competitors are nipping at his heels, and he has an unclear political future. Miller says he was leaving to spend more time with his family. "If I were to run again it would be about my own success, and not the Toronto I love," says Miller. His candidacy will cease in November of 2010 when he will leave and a new mayor of Toronto will be crowned.
I think that Miller certainly has been in over his head in the last several years. For surprisingly winning the election in 2003, he certainly could never have seen this coming. He got in over his head in problems and made some bad decisions, but how he handled the 29 day municipal strike is probably what put the icing on the cake. I think that having a fresh face in office in 2010 would do good for the city and the time off will certainly help Miller in the future
