Rehab patients ditched, leading to relapses

After recovering drug addicts arrived at the Clear Haven Centre in Montreal last Thursday, they were told of its closure. Within the hour, they were on the road to the airport, not rehabilitated, none with any plan for returning home. When they arrived at the airport, they were given $100, not enough for a plane ticket, but more than enough to buy drugs. One 26 year old went home after this ordeal and OD'd, and is currently in brain dead and will most likely be taken off of life support. His relatives say that "None of this would have happened if he hadn't been kicked out like that."
Only one thing can be said about this: What went wrong? A well-organized rehab program suddenly leaving their patients for dead can't be a normal thing. And then leaving them with nowhere left to turn and no support left to offer. These people came looking for a new lease on life and just looking like they had a chance to kick it, they were turfed without any home or support. Government needs to pay more attention to the places that need it before something like this happens again.
